26 Mar 2009Next Saturday – April 4th. – Slovak citizens will elect their new president. I took a closer look at websites of two main candidates and their unofficial support campaigns. I was pretty surprised and disappointed, when I realized the obvious similarity of their campaigns with pres. Obama’s campaign and websites.

Inspiration of Iveta Radicova’s website is more then obvious – same color scheme, font usage, design elements as http://www.change.gov and http://www.barackobama.com. I understand that Slovak and US national colors are same: blue, red and white, and site design is not a complete rip-off, but using almost same background gradient, main content border, footer links design and colors for presidential candidate’s website as other – probably best known - presidental candidate in history is probably too much to be an accident.

And when I read her slogan “We can do it!” vs. Obama’s “Yes we can”, watch her official video and compare it to Obama’s “Yes we can” video, something is telling me it wasn’t an accident, but maybe a strategy.
Ivan Gasparovic’s site was unique and simple, some of his official press photos were really professional, but logo of his unofficial campaign “Our president” reminds me too much of Obama’s “O” logomark.

I understand that http://nasprezident.sk wasn’t created by Gasparovic’s official team, but people behind nasprezident.sk initiative claim that they have convinced Ivan Gasparovic to run for president.
It makes me ask if both campaign staff think that Slovak people didn’t follow Barack Obama’s race for president, never visited any of his websites, or it is caused simply by their naivety, ignorance or lack of creativity and professionality?

That is hilarious. You have to admit. You know what they say, imitation is the biggest form of flattery. Also, Obama’s site is really nice, who can blame them?
