3 quick reasons why supporting #d8rules is important for Drupal future

1) Turning point in embracing crowdfunding

I see D8rules project as a key to opening trust and success of future larger crowdfunding projects on Drupalfund. We've seen 7 successful although smaller campaigns, raised nearly $15,000 USD from around 150 funders, but we didn’t have a project of this size yet. I believe that If we raise enough funds to fully support #d8rules project, it will open the trust of our community in crowdfunding and enable us to use crowdfunding as a real catalyst to boost Drupal development.

Charge your dream project. Seven tips for a successful crowdfunding campaign

This is how it started…

A great idea about a greater product originated in your head, but you needed financial support to realize it. You decided to act, so you created a fantastic campaign, which you published on a crowdfunding platform. You felt right about that, you believed… you convinced yourself that at the very moment you signed up for this, the whole world would bow down before you and your campaign would hit the jackpot of the year! You put into your campaign all of your effort and time, your mind, your will, everything. And the day when your project showed up on the crowdfunding website, it was a total failure. You found out that your project completely blended in with the crowd. It wasn't special or unique in any way; it was just another random submitted campaign.

Crowdfunding/Crowdsourcing - using the right tool in the right time

Once upon a time… in the last years of the 18th century, concretely in the 1774, the British Parliament and actually all mariners and sailors had an intractable problem - sailing the Seven Seas was necessary, but really dangerous to navigate, so the British Government held the contest asking people for the solution.

Suddenly, there he was out of nowhere - John Harrison - who was a self-educated English carpenter and clockmaker and all above, a clever inventor of the marine chronometerThis long-awaited device solved the problem of establishing the East-West position and longitude of a ship at the sea. British Parliament awarded John Harrison the Longitude prize of £20,000 (comparable to $4.25 million US in modern currency) for his solution.

Announcing Drupalfund.us - Crowdfunding the future of Drupal development

19
Sep
2013

Drupalfund.us is a crowdfunding platform for Drupal-related projects.

The Problem

As Drupal-the-software and Drupal-the-community grow and mature, we are coming to a point where we must find sustainable ways to continue Drupal’s growth and success. We created Drupalfund because we, like you, love Drupal and being part of its amazing community. The saying, "Come for the software, stay for the community," gets to the heart of it. Drupal is all about people: The innovators, developers, visionaries, designers, and everyone else who devotes their time and resources to keep Drupal a top of the line content management platform.

Most Drupal development has always been backed by individuals and companies volunteering or donating their time and money to contribute to Drupal. The majority of this development (even core development) is done during developers’ free time, even cutting into time that could be spent on paid work for many. While this generosity is laudable, it still means many issues, fixes, and changes get pushed back and fixed only when a developer can find or “steal” some time.
